Best tools, best books what next?

by Nanu

Hi, I'm new to yarn art... Can't knit with needles and anything I crochet turns into a mess...

So I saw someone post on FB one day about knitting a scarf on a loom, went to walmart that night grabbed a long loom set and I'm hooked!!!

So I have been knitting up a storm, doing mostly the figure 8 double knit stitch (although I figured out the other double knit as well, and the ewrap panel knit also)

Now... I want to do more, and better, and cooler... Seems like there is so much out there.

So, firt.... Should I upgrade my loom? I have the long loom set by Boye... is that a good set? Should I get a Martha Stewart? or something else?

Next seems like everyone who is making really cool stuff likes the rounds?? Should i get a round set? I have the #2 round by KK it's nice, except I don't like the tool it came with.

I bought a better knitting tool but the handle is too bulky and it seems heavy.

So what loom do you like and why? What should i invest in.

What about other tools? Was going to try cable knitting because i love the look of the finished product, got tips there?

Give me a list. :)

Next... What are your favorite books on stitches, and such for noobs?? I saw the "loom knitting primer" today via google, is it good? Something better???

Thanks a million for your thoughts!!!

What's next? (lol!) NEW
by: Jen Tavernier

Seems to me I saw something almost like this on a loom group at facebook - and if itwas you, hurray for finding great groups!

I started with the KK round loom set. Fell in Love. ALso have the long looms (all sizes of both). Now also have the MS loom, which expands even more, as far as sizes and gauge. They are ALL tremendously useful.

If you can't find the full KK sets, (round 4) - look at walmart online, for the Darice round looms. (tey also ship to store for fee I think, and you can just pick them up. Very very similar to the kks. Easy to knit with. As far as In the attic looms, (not being carried at the moment,) I do Have the Mitten loom (IntheAttic), and it comes with a thumb loom, also). These are still available on Amazon, for 9/10 bucks. These are absolutely killer, because they are perfect for adult wristers and fingerless mitts, AND are the exact right size for medium to large slipper tube sox, (and socks maybe). These are both in the round looms.
The # 2 kk loom?- but if it is the 24 peg blue one, don't forget it makes killer adult width sized legwarmers - just make a tube! and acquaint yourself for sure, with the super stretchy bind off, for things that you need ease with.

looms, books, and tools I like NEW
by: Jessie

Hi! I love loom knitting too!

I have found that it is best to have both the long looms and the round looms. This way, you have a variety to work with for different projects. Especially since some projects require the long looms and some require the round looms.

I really like the In The Attic round looms, but they are very hard to find now, so if you can get the Knifty Knitter round looms, they are the second best. Ebay is a great place to get a set of them for a super low price.
As for books, Knifty Knitter has booklets on Ebay that have projects for the round and long looms. There is also a book on that is titled "Loom Knitting with the Knifty Knitter", that has all long loom projects.
I also like the knitting loom tool that KB makes, because the handle is wooden, so its comfortable to hold.
