Knifty Knitter Woven top hat

The instructions for the woven part of this hat are vague. I tried following them but the top of the hat is too loose. Anyone made this hat before? It's in the Learn new stitches on Circle Looms book.

Woven top hat on the yellow loom NEW
by: Nell

Help, I have been trying to make this beautiful hat for days. I cannot figure out how to weave the top or what to do with the yarn ends. every time I follow the directions it looks nothing like the picture. Follow the pictures and I have no clue. Is there a video?

Help needed with the woven hat. NEW
by: Toni

I've taken my knitting apart several times and still don't have the weaving correct. What do you do with the empty pegs? How do you finish off the weaving and begin the knitting? Do you add another few rows of a different stitch to make the "brim"?

Woven Top Hat NEW
by: Anonymous

Ok...I have an idea and need help.

Has anyone tried or thought about making a bowl shape with a loom?

I thought this woven top hat is the closest to a bowl configuration.

My vision is to make a bowl form using 100% wool and then felt it with very hot water.

Any ideas, suggestions, have you tried this?

Much appreciated....need input!

Woven Top hat
by: Joan Barnett

I made the woven top hat in the circle loom book, and finally figured out the weaving instructions and it looked really cool. I mostly looked at the picture rather than try to decipher the written instructions. The thing I had trouble with was the bind-off being too tight. Plus I really needed to do it on the yellow loom -- the green one even is small for a youth hat, I think.

So how does one make a looser bind-off either using their suggested flat method, or some other method?

Ack! I'm having the same trouble!

I thought this hat looked fantastic in the picture but I had the worst time with the weaving and, like the first person to leave a comment, had no idea what to do with the yarn when I was done. And I was not too happy that the weave was much more loose than the picture shows. I'm using the exact yarn and it's much too loose. I would love to see a video instruction for this - it would help a lot!

Was easy to do but yes vague
by: Arletta

I just made it last night using Wool-Ease Thick & Quick yarn. The top is woven loosely - but I don't mind that. (Although it is a bit more open weave than the picture showed). What bugged me is it didn't give clear instructions about what to do with your yarn ends from the top weave once you started to knit - I ended up knotting them and weaving the ends through. I'm going to re-do it though- I think I'd like 8 to 10 more rows of knitting so that it'll curl into a brim - it barely covers the tops of my ears now.
