Meg's mom




My daughter is trying to make a baby hat on a circular loom. She wants to make a bunch and donate them to the hospital. How do we know when it is big enough? Should it be a certain length?

I found this answer just today

New Born Hat should be 5 1/2 inches includign brim

baby hat 6.5 to 7 inches

Child 7 to 8 inches

Adult hat 8 to 9 inches

I was so excited to find this information!!

Yay for your daughter, and for you for raising her to be so thoughtful!

This is suggestion that might make things easier to figure out the criteria and dimensions of knitted pieces for charity, as well as places that are eager to accept them!

There is a book that you may be able to find at a local library: Knitting for Peace by Betty Christiansen, (ISBN-13: 978-1584795339)

It is a book listing and detailing many world-wide charities looking for handmade knit/loomed pieces, from afghans and sweaters to mittens and even the hats your daughter is looming! Hope this helps!

Check with your local hospital. Most are very "picky" about sizes & even the type of yarn.
