Oval looms

Hi I'm new to loom knitting. I bought a set of oval looms. My smallest is a54 peg loom. I want to make a baby hat for my friends newborn. Can someone tell me why it looks like it will fit an adult?

Oval looms/baby hat. NEW
by: Jen Tavernier

Another thing you can check out are loom knit+baby hats on youtube. 54 pegs does seem to me, rather, excessive, but you don't mention the center to center peg gauge.

You can also go to this link, to find out more about brands and gauges:

I would also advise going to Facebook, and searching Loom Groups. There are several, and all kinds brands, and sizes of peg looms, newbies to old hands, lots of pics, - off the top of my head, look for GoodKnit Kisses, Knifty Knitter Loom Group, and several others, and most of us belong to several of them. interaction, tips, etc. Great place for interactive questions!

Oval Loom hat NEW

By the way, wanted to add to my comment about the oval loom. I wanted to mention there are lots of free baby hat patterns on the internet and a round loom pattern will work on an oval loom too if the number of pegs are the same. But am thinking a 54 peg loom may create a hat too large for a baby. Usually those patterns call for a much smaller loom for a baby

Oval Loom/hat NEW
by: Marilyn G.

Hi,

The loom appears so big and even when knitting on it the hat will appear real large. But, the knitted fabric will "pull in" when off the loom and will get smaller. The round loom I use when I make socks, I can put my whole foot straight through and pull up on my leg!! But, the finished sock fits nice and snug, conforms to my foot and does not appear stretched out at all when completed.
