Yarn Too Tight (?)

by Liz

Hi!

I'm a brand new loomer making a pair of socks for the first time. I have a Boye rectangle loom and I was trying to make chunky socks, however, the stitches are coming out very tight. I'm not sure if this is normal or not. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks!
Liz

Okay, check this beginning link out, but you will also start seeing the panorama of what is available on youtube,
loom tension (A simple tool that regulates everything! I use a soda straw - major difference!)

Re your yarn, there ar several reasons that could be the case - mentioned above, wrong yarn size, or your wrapping tension, etc. Since you only say Boye, but not which loom you are using, check out fb, as I said, but do look for youtube wides - say - loom knitting+yarn to tight, even!

There are also blogs that cover this, same thing, search Blogs+loom knitting+yarn to tight, or why is my yarn to tight?

Lots of ways to frame the question, and there are tons of help/answers available.

In my beginnings, I was often wrapping the loom backward! which does horrible things with one's tension! lol (you get to the point where you can't even move the yarn without breaking your loom or your wrist, or the pick! lol

But don't be afraid to ask the internet anything, and get over to FB. On the wec also, check out Good Knit Kisses, Kristen has a website and FB group that is really really thorough with addressing tips for troubleshooting, as well as anything you could want to know about loomimg. (There are other great resources, but that is off the top of my head.) So just saying, the tightness of yarn is a valid thing/question, but knowing the specific reason will get you going, and it will be addressed! lol We have all been through it!

Hi there!

I have never used the Boy looms, but do know they have a sock loom.

You should look into the simpler round looms, (knifty knitter, Michael's loops and threads, Darice, Cindiwood (online.) - (unless that is what you have!)

Also, you need to get over to facebook, search "Loom knitting groups. there are faculous resources and interaction for any question, tips, photos, crazy mad happy loomers, etc. There are several, and most of us belong to them all. All kinds of looms (rectanular, long, circle, sock looms, etc.)

Don't forget to use Youtube - there are 1000s of loomknit vids for any question/project, etc. Start each search wuestion with loom knitting+Stitch, slippers, chunky socks, sweaters, fingerless mitts, etc. (It narrows down the vids between straight knitting vs loom knitting. Fb is a great resource with active loomers, and tips and projects, photos, what is new, etc.

Hope this helps!

Jen!

The reason your stitches are to tight my dear, is because the loom you are using is for a # 1 or 2 sock yarn. Hope this helps you.
